Holly Days Appeal and Road Safety

On Wednesday 10th December all TYs went into town to sell Holly to raise money for the ISPCC. We were all given a box of holly and an ISPCC volunteer vest. We were divided up and given a spot to sell at. We sold for about 2 hours and then went to McDonalds for Lunch. It was freezing cold but im glad we could help raise money for the ISPCC.
On Thursday 11th December, we went to Punchestown for a talk on road safety. Loads of schools from lots of counties were there. When we first got there we walked around the exhibition learning about road safety. All schools were then seated and the talk began. It went on for 2 hours and there were a lot of guest speakers who have experienced loss because of road accidents. I learned a lot.

Vanishing Art

On tuesday 18th November all of TY went to carton house, maynooth, for an art exhibition. It was called vanishing art. There were lots of sculptures, places all over outside. There was also a small display inside. All of the sculptures were strange and distorted.
While we were there, we saw the Irish rugby team. They had been training and we got to see a few of them as they were leaving, like Tommy Bowe and Johnny Sexton.
The art exhibition was fun but the best part of the day was definatly seeing the Irish rugby team!

Anti-Bullying Week

Each year our school has an anti-bullying week. As part of this the students and teachers take part in friendship themed activities.

On Tuesday 30th September, we had two guest speakers come in to talk to us about bullying. They spoke all about cyber bullying and on how to deal with bullying. I really enjoyed this talk.

On Thursday 2nd October, we had our annual funwalk. Being in TY our colour was Yellow. Each class had to make up a dance and perform it in front of the whole school. All of the dances were really good and funny too! My class, Aurora, danced to 'Wake me up before you go-go' by Wham. And in the end of it all we won best class in TY!!
After we danced we went on the walk around Celbridge, which was my least favourite part of the day.

Thanks for reading!
Eleanor.

Work Experience

This week we had our first work experience. We had a talk on the tuesday before with our guidance councellor and year head,  to inform us on what was to come. For my work experience i went to BASE entertainment centre in Celbridge. My day started at 10 am and i finished at 4pm. I was very nervous on the day

When i first arrived i met with a women called Jacky, she is the boss. She showed me around and gave me the uniform. I was then introduced to Alison, she was going to be my work experience supervisor. I spent the day doing many different jobs such as cleaning, working in the café, answering the phone and supervising the children in the play area.

It was a very long and tiring day and i was releaved when it was over, although I enjoyed the day and look forward to next week.

C A R L I N G F O R D !

On Monday 15th September our whole TY group went to Carlingford in Co. Louth. I had been waiting fro this trip since the start of the year so i was very excited! We left celbridge bright and early at 7 am, and after about a 2 hour drive we finally arrived.

We were first introduced to our instructors and told all about the Carlingford centre. We were then assigned to our rooms. Me and my friends got a room for 12, which was lots of fun at night!

The first activity we did was kayaking. The water was freezing at first but after a while we were used to it. My least favourite part was definitely the wetsuits. The second activity that day was a challenge course. This consisted of riddles and games to bond us better as a group. I didnt really like this activity. The last activity done that first day was nightline. This was done in the forest where we followed a rope while blindfolded. Our first day at Carlingford was so much fun!

On Tuesday the 6th, we were woken up at 8 o'clock for breakfast. We then began our first activity of the day, which was single boat kayaking. At first i was nervous to be in a boat by myself but it was easier than expected. We even got to jump off the water trampoline, which was my favourite part. Our last activity of our trip to Carlingford was laser tag. This was by far my favourite activity. We each were given camouflage and a gun. We were then released into an area set up in the forest. We played for hours and i wasnt bored of it once!

We then left Carlingford that day at 5 o'clock. I was sad to leave and i would have loved to stay one more night. This trip brought us closer as a year, and i really look forward to our next trip.
